小雪 (Xiaoxue) Minor Snow 22 November

Singapore has opened up post-pandemic, so the shop is re-opened for business! Sorry for the long wait!

小雪 (Xiaoxue) meaning "Minor Snow" in the second winter solar term under the traditional Chinese lunar calendar. It marks the beginning of snowfall in North China and there is a folk custom of making preserved pork and sausages at this time so that they would be ready to eat in time for the Spring Festival. In the south, some areas will eat glutinous rice cakes.

This painting was done with a mix of traditional Chinese ink as well as some fountain pen inks with gold glitter (the mountains) as an experiment. I wanted to see if I could paint with fountain pen ink. I didn't enjoy painting with fountain pen ink as it turns out because it was too thin and the gold glitter kept settling on the bottom of the ink bottles. I also used silver glitter to simulate snow but it isn't very obvious in the photo.

Hello

Minor Snow, or Xiaoxue, marks the 20th solar term of the Chinese lunar calendar, falling on November 22. It signals the arrival of colder temperatures and light snow in many parts of China. The term is traditionally associated with the change of seasons, where the landscape gradually transforms with the first traces of snow, often a beautiful sight. As the chill sets in, it's the perfect time to cozy up with a warm drink and enjoy some entertainment. For fans of Indian dramas and movies, APNE TV offers a wide array of shows and films to keep you entertained through the chilly days.
